Malvern, PA – Following the organization of Opening Day on the Chester Valley Trail, the Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC) has organized a community/corporate clean-up on the trail to celebrate Earth Day, April 22nd.
“Working on trail programs are a really fun part of our job,” stated TMACC Executive Director, P. Timothy Phelps, “they have become a major corridor for transportation over the last few years and we want to make sure we are emphasizing their importance to commuters.”
Originally designed as a Congestion Mitigation Project for the U.S. Route 202 Construction, the Chester Valley Trail is first and foremost a commuter trail for individuals wishing to forego driving. “It’s hard to think such a beautiful and relaxing activity can be a way to transport individuals, but that’s what it was originally made for. It’s what we hope for all the Circuit trails in the Greater Philadelphia Region,” said Sarah Clark Stuart, Chair of The Circuit Coalition, the group of organizations that share the same goal of connecting all the trails in the Greater Philadelphia region to create a 750-mile network of trails for commuting, exercise, relaxation and more.
The clean-up is being organized by TMACC to remind individuals to not only keep the trail clean, but to encourage individuals to try using it to travel. “Earth Day is a great day to emphasis cleaner modes of transportation like bicycling,” said Phelps, “It’s also a day to make sure we’re taking care of the amenities we take advantage of, like the Chester Valley Trail.”
In addition to the clean-up, TMACC will also present the Air Quality Excellence Award to QVC during the social hour. The award, created by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, is to recognize a company in the Greater Philadelphia region that has established and implemented strategies to promote clean air and enhance the quality of air we experience now. TMACC member, QVC, has implemented multiple strategies such as their shuttle bus, sidewalks, and electric vehicle charging stations that made them the ideal recipient for the award.
